Box Turtle Physiology

The most numerous cells are red blood cells. The immune cells are heterophils (pink) and lymphocytes (purple).

Blood samples are pipetted into small wells and mixed with enzymes to determine glucose and triglyceride concentrations. Both are important energy substrates for turtles.
